Furnaces
Why is my furnace running but the house isn't warming up?
Check the filter first; a clogged filter chokes airflow and can make the furnace overheat and shut its burners off. Then check that registers are open. If both are fine, it may be a flame sensor, ignitor or gas valve issue, which is a service call.
How often should I change my furnace filter?
Thin 1-inch filters: every one to three months during heating season. Thicker 4- or 5-inch media filters: usually every six to twelve months. Homes with pets or construction dust need it more often.
How long does a furnace last?
Many gas furnaces last fifteen to twenty years or more with regular maintenance. Age alone isn't a reason to replace; repeated repairs, rising bills and safety concerns are.
What should I do if my carbon monoxide alarm goes off?
Get everyone outside, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Don't go back in until the source has been found and fixed. Once it's safe, we can inspect the furnace and venting.
Air conditioning and heat pumps
Why is there ice on my AC lines?
Usually low airflow (a dirty filter or closed vents) or low refrigerant from a leak. Turn the AC off and the fan on to thaw it, change the filter, and book a visit if it ices up again.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a gas furnace in Idaho Falls?
It depends on your utility rates and how cold it gets. A dual-fuel setup uses the heat pump in mild weather and gas on the coldest days, which is often the lowest-cost option here. We'll run the numbers for your home.
What size AC or heat pump do I need?
Sizing comes from a load calculation: insulation, windows, square footage and which way the house faces. Bigger isn't better; an oversized unit cycles on and off and leaves the house clammy.
